Professional Golfer Visit
NCPA is a learning community that empowers students to achieve academic and social excellence. After a successful visit with New York Times best-selling author, Brendon Mull, we were equally pleased to welcome Feng Shanshan, a professional golfer, to NCPA on September 20th.
Feng Shanshan is the first golfer from China to medal in women’s golf at the 2016 Olympic Games in addition to becoming the first Chinese woman to make the Women’s World Golf Rankings in 2017. Even though Feng Shanshan has achieved much success, she continues to remain modest. Throughout her conversations with students, she emphasized the importance modesty plays in helping people analyze situations they are facing. For example, Feng Shanshan is still exploring alternative training methods to improve her technique despite the fact she has already accomplished much success. She encouraged our students and our athletes to use their best judgement to draw upon other people’s opinions and strengths to help them reflect on how they can continually improve themselves.
Our student athletes received valuable advice on how to handle emotions during a competition. Feng Shanshan explained that it is completely normal to feel nervous before competing, and that oftentimes those nerves are beneficial to improving the performance.
She emphasized the importance sportsmanlike conduct plays in showing respect to rivals and that cooperation between teammates both on and off the courts is essential to an athlete’s performance. Feng Shanshan is an inspiration to our students, both for her athletic achievements as well as her positive outlook towards life.
NCPA is a partner of the Feng Shanshan Golf Academy. Students who enroll in the golf academy will use the Gary Gilchrist training system commonly used by Feng Shanshan. The academy is expected to improve and grow with international professional guidance.
