Seeing Students Shine Through Data with Ms. Baker-Smith
So far this school year, GUIS students have already participated in at least one assessment, and the fall session will continue through September 23.
These assessments provide valuable insights into students’ academic learning and development. MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tracks progress in reading, grammar, and math, CAT 4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) evaluates cognitive abilities and potential, and WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) measures English language proficiency. GUIS teachers review these results to support individual students, while school leadership analyzes whole-school data to identify areas for improvement.
GUIS also fosters a safe and supportive environment where students can reflect on their assessment experiences, asking themselves, “What challenges am I facing? How can I tackle them? How can I use my strengths?” Such reflection helps students build resilience, strengthen their skills, and take responsibility for their learning.
